CALL TO WORSHIP

Though we have known hardship and pain, though life has not always turned out as we had hoped, we will stand here and say:

God’s steadfast love endures forever!

Though life becomes more complex, the deepest questions remain unanswered, and the mystery of faith deepens, we will say:

God’s steadfast love endures forever!

And though the pain of the world often seems more than we can bear or address, we will stand firm in our faith and say:

God’s steadfast love endures forever!

OPENING PRAYER

We thank you, O God, for the gift of life and a new day. Thank you for bringing each of us here and meeting us as we gather together. Bless this time of remembering the story of your faithfulness with the people of Israel and with us today. May you allow us, in our hearts and minds, to enter into the story of your people throughout time. Remind each of us of our journey from slavery to freedom, from death to life by the power of your almighty hand. We give you praise for the grace you offer us through Jesus Christ. Amen.

As we bring our tithes and offerings to you, O God of steadfast love, we thank you for the lessons of the past. We remember all that you have done for us; make us truly grateful. We remember times of joy and times of sorrow; may these experiences make us compassionate toward others. We share the memory of your people as they have journeyed through time; it is our story as well. May the richness of our past be the ground out of which love, hope, faithfulness, justice and peace blossom. We ask this in the name of the Prince of Peace, Jesus our friend and brother. Amen.
