GATHERING
CALL TO WORSHIP
And in the last days it shall come to pass, God declares,
That I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,
And your sons and daughters shall prophesy,
Your old shall dream dreams, and your young shall see visions.
When the Day of Pentecost had come,
They were all gathered together in one place.
And suddenly a sound came from heave like the rush of a mighty wind,
And it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared to them tongues as of fire,
Distributed and resting on each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.
HYMN “Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness” #2120 TFWS
OPENING PRAYER
God of grace,
You sent the promised gift of the Holy Spirit
Upon the apostles and the women,
Upon Mary the mother of Jesus and upon his brothers.
Fill your church with power,
Kindle flaming hearts within us,
And cause us to proclaim your mighty works in every tongue,
That all may call on you and be saved;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING
God of Wind, word and fire, we bless your name this day
For sending the light and strength of your Holy Spirit.
We give you thanks for all the gifts, great and small,
That you have poured upon your children.
Accept us with our gifts
To be living praise and witness to your love through all the earth;
Through Jesus Christ, who lives with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God, for ever. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
Let us pray for the Church and for the World.
Grant, Almighty God,
that all who confess your name shall be united in your truth,
live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Silent Prayer
Guide the people of this land, and of all the nations,
In the ways of justice and peace;
That we may honor one another and serve the common good.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Silent Prayer
Give us all a reverence of the earth as your own creation,
that we may use its resources rightly
in the service of others and to your honor and glory
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Silent Prayer
Bless all whose lives are closely linked with ours,
And grant that we may serve Christ in them,
And love one another as Christ loves us.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Silent Prayer
Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit;
Give them courage and hope in their troubles,
And bring them the joy of your salvation.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Silent Prayer
We commend to your mercy all who have died,
That your will for them may be fulfilled;
And we pray that we may share with all your saints
In your eternal kingdom.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Silent Prayer
From self-righteousness that will not compromise,
And from selfishness that gains by the oppression of others,
O Lord, deliver us.
From the lust for money or power that drives to kill,
O Lord, deliver us.
From hearing, believing, and speaking lies about other nations,
O Lord, deliver us.
From suspicions and fears that stand in the way of reconciliation,
O Lord, deliver us.
From Words and deeds that encourage discord, prejudice, and hatred; from everything that prevents us from fulfilling your promise of peace
O Lord, deliver us.
We offer these prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord.
