GATHERING

CALL TO WORSHIP

Today is the anniversary of Aldersgate Day,

when John Wesley felt the assurance of his sins forgiven,

Today is the day the Lord has made,

in which we can find assurance of God’s grace for us!

Today is the day we remember the Ascension,

when Jesus took authority as Ruler of the Cosmos,

Today is the day of the Lord, Christ is King

and all the rulers of the world are rightly under his reign.

Today, Jesus is Lord of our hearts,

our lives, and the whole creation!

Amen! Jesus is Lord!

HYMN “Hail the Day that Sees Him Rise” #312

OPENING PRAYER

Almighty God,

Your blessed Son, our Savior Jesus Christ,

ascended far above all heavens,

That he might fill all things,

Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise,

He abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the world;

Through the same your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING

Almighty God, in a time of great need

You raised up your servants John and Charles Wesley,

And by your Spirit inspired them to kindle a flame of sacred love

Which leaped and ran, an inextinguishable blaze.

Grant that all those whose hearts have been warmed at these altar fires,

Being continually refreshed by your grace, may be so devoted

To the increase of scriptural holiness throughout the land

That in this our time of great need,

Your will may fully and effectively be done on earth as it is in heaven;

Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Let us pray for the Church and for the World.

Grant, Almighty God,

that all who confess your name shall be united in your truth,

live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Silent Prayer

Guide the people of this land, and of all the nations,

In the ways of justice and peace;

That we may honor one another and serve the common good.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Silent Prayer

Give us all a reverence of the earth as your own creation,

that we may use its resources rightly

in the service of others and to your honor and glory

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Silent Prayer

Bless all whose lives are closely linked with ours,

And grant that we may serve Christ in them,

And love one another as Christ loves us.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Silent Prayer

Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit;

Give them courage and hope in their troubles,

And bring them the joy of your salvation.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Silent Prayer

We commend to your mercy all who have died,

That your will for them may be fulfilled;

And we pray that we may share with all your saints

In your eternal kingdom.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Silent Prayer

We offer these prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
