Prelude: *Call to Worship (Lighting of the Christ Candle)
We light this candle as a sign of the coming light of Christ. We see hope for the days when the nations shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war anymore.
When the wolf shall dwell with the lamb,
the leopard shall lie down with the kid,
the calf and the lion and the fatling together,
and a little child shall lead them.
When the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing. The prophets promised, long ago,
that the Lord will give you a sign.
Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel (God is with us). The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light
Those who have lived in the land of deep darkness On them light has shined.
Celebrating the coming of the newborn King,
Let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Confession and Pardon
God all-powerful, Grant that we may rid ourselves of the works of darkness, And that we may invest ourselves with the weapons of light In this life To which your Son, Jesus Christ, With great humility, came to visit us; So that in the final day, When he returns in majestic glory to judge the living and the dead, We shall rise to eternal life through Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, Now and for ever. Amen
(A Child Prays)
Visit your family, O God.
Give us love, joy, and peace.
Purify our thoughts, words, and deeds, so that when Jesus Christ comes,
He will find a place prepared for his coming.
